The Sorensen Library project consisted of the construction of a new 10,655 square-foot steel framed building made from 40% recycled steel. The new Sorensen Library achieved a LEED Silver rating, and is the LA County Library’s first green library. The Library was constructed with recycled materials and features sun-absorbing roofing material, absorbable pavement, huge windows for lots of natural lighting and drought-tolerant landscaping. This state-of-the-art library features a community meeting room, teen area, self-checkout stations, 23 public computers, homework center, free WiFi access, and a cutting-edge multimedia and audio system.
